Welcome to ADP/S

The Alternative Development Program - Southern Region (ADP/S) is a four-year initiative to improve licit income opportunities for thousands of rural families in Helmand, Kandahar and Uruzgan provinces by integrating them into a growing regional economy.

By providing licit, alternative income and employment opportunities, ADP/S contributes to a reduction over time in the growing of opium poppy in targeted areas. The following objectives form the basis of all proposed ADP activities in Southern Afghanistan, and advance the primary Strategic Objective of USAID/Afghanistan: a thriving licit economy led by the private sector.

  • Improve public works and infrastructure essential for licit economic growth
  • Develop agribusiness clusters and associated income-generating activities
  • Accelerate business development
